The Art of Making Meaningful Things-Nature Inside
One of my intentional focuses in the new year was to make meaningful things. I thought I would share my current success this month. In a recent post, I mentioned creating terrariums. What a wonderful time I have had creating several of these and I just finished planting the largest one that I have, it is of the one pictured below with the Sword Fern in it. These grow wild in the forests near my home along with several other varieties like Bracken Fern and Maidenhair Ferns. I am currently partial to these beauties.
I planted some narcissus bulbs in a taller container than I have in the past because they usually grow too tall, fall, and bend over. I am hoping the taller sides help to keep them all upright. I am pleased to say that they are off to a good start and I love seeing the brilliant green poking through the soft emerald mosses that I gathered from fallen branches on my forest walks. Lucky for me we have had a couple of gusty winter wind storms that have littered the trails with a variety of mosses. So I stuff my pockets full and bring home the bounty. I also found a Sword Fern (pictured) from a fallen branch as well, what a find! I have used it in the largest of my terrariums. These little wonderlands of nature in miniature are splendid little worlds. The colors are lush and fresh. A wonderful respite to the senses on gray winter days filled with rain.
The smaller one in the clear glass compote is filled with succulents and nestled in moss from the forest too. My plan is to sketch these, as well as, some of my other indoor plants. Oh, alas! So much sketching, so little time!
