Hey All!

I am sure you are off to a great start with your learning at home schooling this year. However, that looks for you ( I go back to a teaching in-person this week!) I wanted to give you some simple inexpensive options for art materials to get you started.

1. Use what you have. I always encourage families to get out your old school supplies you will have something you can use right away. There is no need to go crazy on art supplies. Sometimes you can even find them at garage sales and second hand shops. These materials and tools are precious to me because they have been in the hands of another artist, and I think that is special.

2. A box of used crayons can create wonderful renditions of masterworks. In fact, I have a whole class using crayons to create one of Van Gogh’s masterpieces. Beyond the Crayon

3. A Pencil and Paper, it doesn’t get more basic than that. Drawing is the foundation of all other art forms Once this has been mastered the skies the limit but for beginners and students still mastering their skills copy paper and an HB pencil are perfect. Need a beginning drawing class I have got you covered try out Mark Making you will love it!

4. Ink pens or markers. These are fun to use when studying line because you can make all kinds of lines and patterns with them.

5. Recycle you can often find wonderful textured and interesting types of paper used for packaging these days and it is fun to see what the same paint looks like on different paper. Artists like to experiment so don’t be afraid to investigate how paint will behave on different papers. This alone could be a wonderful art lesson.

6. Paints. Look for the sales Hobby Lobby often has sales and a 40% off coupons you can use towards craft paint or artist acrylic and if you get your three basic colors red, yellow, and blue that is all you need since all colors come from these three. You may also want to get black and white as well.

7. Double Duty. Look for supplies that you can use in more than one way. For instance, watercolor pencils can be used for watercolor painting or colored pencils. Water soluble markers can be used in the same way just active them with water once you have colored something. Try out some water soluble pencils too these are fun for sketching and lend themselves to shading in a snap, I love these pencils.

Have a wonderful time using the ordinary to make something extraordinary!

With paint in my hair and Jesus in my Heart!
